My Star
by: Robert Browning

All, that I know
Of a certain star
Is, it can throw
(Like the angled spar)
Now a dart of red,
Now a dart of blue
Till my friends have said
They would fain see, too,
My star that dartles the red and the blue!
Then it stops like a bird; like a flower, hangs furled:
They must solace themselves with the Saturn above it.
What matter to me if their star is a world?
Mine has opened its soul to me; therefore I love it.

the star is so romantics. robert browning here deviates from what is the victorian age. it is a short poem with an easy language direct and simple to be understood it is full of romantic as browning here talking about his wife elizbith.

my star is a phrase indicates sth and we should know quickly that the star is his wif and he says (my) not the star because she belongs only to him and he loves her.
i think my star is about ahope but a different type of hope it is about the reunion of the two not on the earth but in paradise.

The star also is a symbol of true love which is different from the other's one. He describes his love to his wife in a different way like when he is absent minded with his friends that no one can guess what is going on his mind.

I agree with you both,Browning portrayed his dead wife as shining star in the sky,he loves her and hopes to reunited in heaven.

''she belongs only to him'' good point israa!
i think that this poem does not only express Browning's love to his wife, but it also reflects the conventions of his age in which a woman is considered man's property

That is right israa, and I personally think that everyone has a star, but only a few can completely embrace it.
